It is easy to focus our weekly worship entirely on the comfort, blessings, and peace that a walk with God provides. However, a complete gospel requires us to occasionally step back and look at the solemn, foundational truths of eternity.
Scripture speaks extensively about the destination of our souls. We cannot afford to remain comfortable or blind to the reality of spiritual warfare and judgment. If we truly want to understand the depth of God’s grace, we must examine the truth about the place from which He has redeemed us.
1. Hell Is Actively Preparing
The Old Testament prophet Isaiah pulls back the curtain of the spiritual realm to show us that hell is not an idle or stagnant afterthought. It is an aggressive, alert reality that is preparing for those who reject God:
“Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.” — Isaiah 14:9
The Bible describes hell as being “moved” to meet those who arrive outside of God’s covenant. It does not matter what kind of social status, earthly title, wealth, or power a person held in this life—kings and rulers are stripped of their honor the moment they step into eternity. Hell makes room for those who choose a lifestyle apart from Jesus Christ.
2. A Place of Remorse and Separation
Scripture describes the torment of hell not just as physical heat, but as a deep emotional and spiritual agonizing. It is a place of absolute separation from everything that is good, holy, and pure.
When a person enters eternity without salvation, they are met with the overwhelming weight of their missed opportunities. They will remember every sermon they ignored, every altar call they walked away from, and every time the Holy Spirit tugged at their heart while they stubbornly chose to keep their flesh in control. It is a state of perpetual remorse where the realization of a wasted birthright becomes an eternal burden.
3. Shaking Off Spiritual Slumber
Understanding the terrifying reality of eternity should instantly destroy any spirit of complacency within the Church. Knowing that hell is expanding its borders daily should drive us straight to our knees in desperate prayer.
We cannot afford to sit silently in our church pews while our neighbors, family members, co-workers, and friends cruise through life on autopilot toward destruction. The reality of judgment puts a heavy urgency on our daily walk. It forces us to stop playing “super Christian” and start actively standing on the frontlines of evangelism to snatch souls out of the fire.
4. The Antidote: Running to the Sanctuary of Grace
The sobering truth of judgment is exactly why the Good News of the Gospel is so breathtakingly beautiful. God never intended for you to experience torment. He built an escape route through the cross of Calvary.
When you repent of your sins, are baptized in the saving name of Jesus Christ, and are filled with the supernatural power of the Holy Ghost, you are legally transferred out of darkness and into His marvelous light. You don’t have to live in fear of eternity because your anchor is firmly hidden in the rock of salvation.
Choose Life Today
Right now, intercessors—mothers, fathers, and grandparents who have already passed into eternity—are hoping that someone will step up and reach this generation before it is too late.
The doors of grace are wide open today, but they will not stay open forever. Take inventory of your soul right now. If there is a hidden sin, a compromised habit, or a lukewarm attitude holding you back, surrender it at the altar. Run to Jesus, secure your eternal inheritance, and let Him use your life to rescue others!
