Do You Understand You Need God?

Do You Understand You Need God?

As we dive into The Word today, I wanted to lay a heavy but vital question on your hearts: Do you truly understand that you need God?

In a world that constantly tells us to be self-sufficient and “self-made,” it is easy to forget that our very breath and our every success depend entirely on the grace of the Almighty. We spent our time today looking at what the Word says about our total dependency on Him.

Where Does Your Help Come From?

We began by looking at Psalm 121:1-2:

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”

The point here is foundational. When we face trials or mountains that seem too high to climb, we often look to our own bank accounts, our own intellect, or our own friends for help. But the Psalmist reminds us that our true help comes from the Creator of the universe. If He made heaven and earth, surely He can handle the situation you are walking through right now.

Acknowledging Our Condition

To understand our need for God, we must first be honest about ourselves. We looked at Romans 3:23:

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

None of us are “good enough” to make it on our own. We have all missed the mark. When we realize that we have fallen short of His glory, we stop trying to earn our way into His favor and start realizing that we desperately need a Savior.

Total Dependency

I challenged us today to think about the vine and the branches as described in John 15:5:

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

Jesus didn’t say that without Him we can do a little bit. He said without Him, we can do nothing. Like a branch that is snapped off a vine, we might look alive for a moment, but eventually, we wither. True life and fruitfulness only come when we stay connected to the Source.

The Invitation to Rest

Finally, we concluded with the beautiful invitation found in Matthew 11:28:

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

If you are tired, worn out, and feeling the weight of trying to run your own life, Jesus is calling to you. The moment you admit you need Him is the moment you find the rest that your soul has been searching for.

Moving Forward

This week, I want to encourage you to stop trying to carry the load by yourself. Look to the hills, acknowledge your need, abide in the Vine, and find your rest in Him.
