Don’t Fear The Storm

Watch the full sermon, Don’t Fear the Storm, to go deeper into this message and discover how God can bring peace into your situation.

Have you ever felt like life is completely out of control?

Like everything is hitting you at once—stress, anxiety, uncertainty—and you don’t know how to fix it?

You’re not alone.

The Bible tells a story about experienced fishermen who found themselves in a storm so intense they thought they were going to die. These weren’t beginners—they knew the water—but this storm shook them to the core.

Storms in life don’t always look like waves and wind.

Sometimes they look like anxiety that won’t go away, fear about the future, relationship struggles, financial pressure, or situations you simply can’t control. And in those moments, it’s easy to ask:

God, where are You?

The disciples asked the same question when the storm hit their boat: “Teacher, don’t you care that we are going to drown?”

One of the biggest lessons storms teach us is this: we are not in control.

We try to manage everything—our plans, our future, our circumstances—but all it takes is one unexpected storm to realize how little control we actually have. The truth is, control is a myth. Storms reveal what we often try to ignore: we can’t control everything, we can’t predict everything, and we can’t fix everything on our own.

But here’s something important to understand: not every storm is your fault.

The disciples were in the storm because they obeyed Jesus. They were doing exactly what God told them to do—and still ended up in a crisis. Sometimes we think, “What did I do wrong?” or “Why is this happening to me?” But the truth is, not every storm is punishment. Some storms are part of the journey.

When life gets hard, most of us respond the same way the disciples did. We try to fix everything ourselves. We overthink, we stress, we try to regain control—while Jesus is right there with us.

The disciples were fighting the storm, trying to control the situation, doing everything they could to survive. But they missed something important: they weren’t meant to control the storm—they were meant to trust God in it.

The reality is, they knew about Jesus—but they didn’t fully trust Him yet. And that’s where many of us are today. We believe in God, we go to church, we’ve heard the truth—but when life gets hard, we still try to handle everything ourselves.

Everything changes when we move from control to trust.

When the disciples finally turned to Jesus, He didn’t just help them manage the situation—He did something greater. He spoke to the storm: “Peace. Be still.” And instantly, everything changed.

This moment reveals something powerful: God doesn’t just help you cope—He has authority over the storm itself.

So how do we face life without fear?

First, let go of control. You were never meant to carry everything. Second, remember that God is with you—even when He seems silent. Third, choose faith over fear. Trust grows in the storm, not after it. Fourth, call on God. Don’t try to handle everything alone. And finally, remember His faithfulness. God has brought you through before, and He will do it again.

Even when it feels like God is distant, the truth is He sees your struggle, He knows what you’re going through, and He is present in your storm.

Sometimes the storm isn’t there to destroy you—it’s there to help you truly know who God is.

You don’t have to live in fear. You don’t have to have all the answers. You don’t have to control everything.

You just need to trust the One who controls the storm.
