Identifying And Removing Defiant Giants

Identifying And Removing Defiant Giants

Today, we began a vital discussion on Identifying and Removing Defiant Giants. We all face things in our lives that stand in our way and mock our faith, but God has given us the tools to overcome them.

The Stature of a Giant

We started by looking at the classic account of a giant who defied the people of God.
In 1 Samuel 17:1-11, we read about Goliath of Gath. This wasn’t just a tall man; he was a champion of the Philistines standing over nine feet tall, covered in brass armor and carrying a spear like a weaver’s beam.

For forty days, he stood and cried out to the armies of Israel, saying, “I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together”. The Bible tells us that when Saul and all Israel heard those words, they were “dismayed, and greatly afraid”.

The point is this: The enemy loves to use intimidation. He wants to stand in front of your situation and shout until you are too afraid to move. But we have to identify that spirit of defiance for what it is—a challenge to the God we serve.

The Power of the Name

While the giant has his armor and his spear, we have something far greater. We talked about the importance of not allowing the enemy to intimidate Church of Pentecost. We must be bold and get to know the Jesus that we serve.

As we saw in Philippians 2:9-11, God has given us a name that is above every name. That name is Jesus. When you are baptized in Jesus’ name, that name is applied to your life, and the power behind that name is ours to use.

  • Don’t be intimidated: Do not let the giants of sickness or infirmity silence you.

  • Command the situation: If you need to pray for someone, do it in the name of Jesus. I command that spirit of infirmity to be gone in Jesus’ name!

  • Use your authority: God wants to use you, and He wants you to use His power to remove the giants that are standing in your way.

Final Thoughts

This week, I challenge you to look at the giants in your life and stop being dismayed by their size. Remember that the giant is defying the living God, not just you. Use the name that is above all names, stand your ground, and watch those defiant giants fall.

1 Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and were gathered together at Shochoh, which belongeth to Judah, and pitched between Shochoh and Azekah, in Ephesdammim.
And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and pitched by the valley of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.
And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a target of brass between his shoulders.
And the staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield went before him.
And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.
If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.
10 And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.
11 When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
