Gathering on Pentecost Sunday always brings a powerful reminder of what God is doing in our midst and the revival He has prepared for our future. But as we look toward what’s ahead, we must lean in to hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church.
We live in a season where everything that can be shaken will be shaken. As Jesus promised, “he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved” (Matthew 24:13). If we are going to serve God in this day and age, we must do it with everything inside of us.
This requires us to face a challenging question: Are we ready to meet the demands of true Kingdom allegiance?
1. The Call to Deny Self
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus lays down a direct line in the sand for anyone who desires to walk with Him:
“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” — Matthew 16:24
We love to celebrate our spiritual walk, but we often struggle with denying ourselves. Human flesh and personal opinions have a stubborn tendency to get in the way of God’s divine plans. True allegiance is not a casual association with a church; it is a declaration of total loyalty. To experience true revival, we must put our flesh into subjection daily.
2. Drawing a Line in the Sand
When we think of allegiance, we think of the dramatic showdown on Mount Carmel. The prophet Elijah stood before a compromising nation and issued a timeless challenge:
“How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him.” — 1 Kings 18:21
Elijah was unwavering. He stepped aside and let the prophets of Baal try their rituals first. Baal remained silent, but when Elijah prayed, the fire of God fell and consumed the sacrifice. The display was so undeniable that the people fell on their faces, crying, “The Lord, he is the God; the Lord, he is the God” (1 Kings 18:39).
Kingdom allegiance means buying the truth and selling it not (Proverbs 23:23). It means making a finalized decision that no matter what culture dictates, your mind is fully made up.
3. Standing Out from the Crowd
Stepping into true allegiance requires you to step out from the crowd. When we repent, are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and are filled with the Holy Ghost, we become brand-new creatures: “Old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Because of this radical transformation, we don’t go to the same places or talk the same way we used to. What is built on the inside will naturally reveal itself on the outside.
Your stance for Christ can shatter generational chains. Consider Joshua’s iconic declaration of family allegiance: “…but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15). You might be the only one in your workplace, school, or family serving God right now. But if you let “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27) shine brightly, your steady allegiance can lead your loved ones right through the church doors.
4. Bouncing Back with Scripture
Commitment to Jesus does not mean an absence of trials. God will often pull us out of our comfort zones to put His power on display. When tough times or spiritual warfare come your way, you must bounce back with scripture.
Stand firmly on these biblical promises when the enemy attacks:
-
When you feel weak: “The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).
-
When you face opposition: “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17).
-
When you stumble: “Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise…” (Micah 7:8).
-
When the trial is heavy: “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him” (Job 13:15).
-
When resources are low: Trust the Creator who owns “the cattle upon a thousand hills” (Psalm 50:10).
The Ultimate Choice
God fills us with His Spirit for a purpose. The Bible tells us that God is “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 2 Peter 3:9). He empowers us so that we can win souls for the Kingdom.
Today, God gives you the freedom to choose exactly whom you will serve (Joshua 24:15). If you need to repent, be baptized in the saving name of Jesus, or renew your commitment, don’t wait. Pick up your cross, step over the line, and declare your absolute allegiance to the King.
